Salt River Girl Scouts: Host Cultural Event

gallery-01The Salt River Girl Scouts held their second annual Culture Awareness Event on Saturday, January 18, in the courtyard of the Two Waters Complex and at the Huhugam Ki Museum. The event was designed to help educate local Girl Scout troops outside of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community about Native American culture.

SRPMIC Youth Collaborate on Social Problems

gallery-02On the evening of January 13, youth from Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community programs such as the Young River People’s Council, the VAII Clubhouse, the Boys & Girls Club Red Mountain and Lehi branches, and the Salt River High School Student Council came together for the first SRPMIC Youth Collaboration, held at the Lehi Community Center. The goal of the collaboration was to build bridges between the groups, form new friendships and come together to discuss issues they feel are important to the youth of the Community.

N7 Baseball Camp

gallery-03On Saturday, January 11, the third annual Jacoby Ellsbury Baseball Camp took place at the Salt River Fields in Scottsdale. Ellsbury is of Navajo decent and a registered member of the Colorado River Indian Tribes. The new Yankee centerfielder and Nike N7 ambassador interacted with youth from local native communities, showing them that anything is possible, as long as you put in the hard work and dedication.

Phoenix Suns Stop by Round House Café

gallery-04On January 16, players and staff from the NBA Phoenix Suns paid a visit to the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, stopping by the Round House Café to talk about what has been going on with the team, sign autographs and offer advice to Community youth.
