Senior Olympics: Young at Heart

Early on the morning of March 31, the Lehi Community Center greeted tribal seniors from all over Arizona eager to compete in this year’s Senior Olympics. To start, the seniors entered the cafeteria, where they were met by the aroma of eggs, sausage and other breakfast items. While they enjoyed their breakfast, Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community Vice-President Martin Harvier stopped in to share some encouraging words and a quick childhood story that had everyone laughing.


 

Lady Eagles go 2-2 in Salt River Classic

Much like the varsity baseball team, the Lady Eagles struggled with fundamental errors, resulting in a 2-2 record in the annual Salt River Classic. This year 34 teams traveled to compete in two divisions; the gold and the silver. Lady Eagles competed in the gold division.

 

Eagles Baseball Finish 2-2 in the Salt River Classic

Salt River High School hosted their annual ‘Salt River Classic Baseball Tournament’ on March 27-29. This year 28 teams from in and out of the state traveled to compete in perfect Phoenix weather. The Eagles of Salt River finished the tournament 2-2.


 

Fourth Annual Wellness March Madness Basketball Tournament

On Wednesday, April 2, the Fourth Annual March Madness Basketball Tournament championship game took place at Friendship Park near the Round House Café. For about four weeks, Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community tribal employees on 10 teams had been battling out on the court to prove which team would earn the championship title.
