The 19th Annual Unity Run Ends in the Community

Completing the five-day prayer relay run known as the Unity Run, runners finally entered the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community on Friday, March 21. The Unity Run began at Black Mountain in San Xavier in southern Arizona on Sunday, March 16, and runners ended their journey at Red Mountain the following Friday.

The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community’s Diabetes Education Program held the March Madness Fun Run and Walk on March 22, at Salt River High School’s athletics building. The event includes several runs and walks, starting with the Youth Progressive 1-Mile Run.

 

SRHS Wrestler Makes Arizona Wrestling Team

Salt River High School freshman Jason James Jr. has qualified to be a member of the Arizona Wrestling Team, which will compete in Fargo, North Dakota in the Fargo Dome at North Dakota State University (NDSU). The tournament, which will take place July 18-26, is the DASICS/Vaughan Cadet & Junior Nationals. James is the first wrestler in Eagles history to qualify for Nationals.

The incidence of pre-diabetes and diabetes appears to be rising in the U.S. population and almost one-third of those with diabetes do not know that they have it. The likelihood of American Indian and Alaska Native adults to have diagnosed diabetes is 2.3 times the rate of non-Hispanic whites. In American Indian and Alaska Native youth between the ages of 10 and 19 to have diagnosed diabetes is nine times the rate of non-Hispanic whites.
