Chief Melvin appointed to National Children’s Advisory Group

Chief Patrick Melvin of the SRPD has been appointed to the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), Yale University, Children Exposed to Violence (CEV) Advisory Group, sponsored by the Department of Justice.

Chief Melvin, along with other police chief’s and industry professionals from across the country were recently selected to provide strategic advice to the IACP.

The Project’s goals include increasing the understanding of CEV among law enforcement leaders and officers and to equip law enforcement professionals in their vital roles helping children and families through identification and trauma-informed response to violent events.

Chief Melvin mentioned that he is excited to represent the Community and discuss the current state of law enforcement practices and policies on CEV and advise on effective methods to increase the response to CEV by law enforcement agencies.

The advisory group consists of law enforcement professionals from various backgrounds and locations to include rural, urban, tribal, and suburban communities.

Chief Melvin will serve on the advisory board through the end of the grant project slated to be October 2014.
