Earth Day 2013

gallery-01Staff from Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community government departments, along with Community members and families, got together on April 13 for the Labor of Love Earth Day Cleanup event, which kicked off at the Two Waters complex. Although much smaller than in the past, this year’s Earth Day project was well organized and deemed a success.

Veterans Day Powwow

gallery-02The blur of vibrant colors, a cool breeze, nostrils filling with the aroma of popovers, and the sound of voices harmonizing filled the air during the seventh annual Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community Veterans Recognition Social Powwow, which took place April 12-14.

ECEC: Month of the Young Child

gallery-03The Early Childhood Education Center celebrates Month of the Young Child (MYOC) with a series of events for the students and families of the Early Childhood Education Center. The MYOC events kicked off with a Mini Powwow and ended with a Fashion show where students could have the opportunity to represent their heritage. Every Wednesday was Wacky Wednesday from pajama day, superhero/princess day, to mismatch day.

25th Annual AICOA Conference

gallery-04The Arizona Indian Council on Aging (AICOA) conference, presented by the Inter Tribal Council of Arizona, Inc. (ITCA), marked its silver anniversary this year, celebrating 25 years of providing Native American elders tips and services for living a long and healthy life. The four-day conference, held April 15-18 at Talking Stick Resort and Spa, provided a full agenda of education, activities, healthy workshops and socialization. On the final day of the conference, elders enjoyed the Senior Games, held at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick. They played games and competed in sports events such as archery, basketball, the chicken throw, bowling, chair volleyball, aerobic dance and more.
