This year, the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community Fourth of July Celebration took place at the Salt River High School football field. Musical entertainment was provided by Candi Hofmann and The Swamp Coolers, and throughout the evening family games were played every 30 minutes.
The evening’s festivities started out with the posting of the colors by Salt River Bushmasters Post 114. Families enjoyed hot dog meals provided by Community member Cecelia Antone, and Lulu’s Italian Ice Cart handed out free Italian ice.
The games started on the north side of the football field as the sun started going down. The competitions included a water-balloon war, a family calling game, a three-legged race, a water-balloon catch and a balloon race.
Right before the lights went out, a watermelon bust took place and everyone retrieved slices of watermelon to enjoy during the fireworks show.
This year 400-plus Community members, families and friends attended the July 4th festivities at Salt River High School.
