2012 ICIN Annual Awards Ceremony, "George Little, Jr." Best Practices Award presented to Salt River Police Department Traffic Unit

On Tuesday, December 11, Salt River Police Department was presented with the “George little, Jr” Best Practices Award. For the last 5 Years the Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community Police Department Traffic Enforcement Bureau has been aggressively working to significantly impact the number of traffic related fatalities and injury accidents while experiencing an increase in the number of vehicles traveling on Salt River roadways.

This has been accomplished through sustained, focus efforts that have included:
-Conducted traffic enfacement in high traffic areas during peak times of usage when traffic collisions are occurring:
-Conducted presentations and training in the area of traffic education for community members, government, employees, non community members and visitors.
-Worked to change the driving behaviors by the use of advertising on billboards with slogans such as “Arrive Alive-Buckle Up!”
-Obtained Specialized equipment to improve the successful prosecution of traffic related homicides in the U.S. federal Courts.
-Utilized grant funding wherever possible to stretch enforcement efforts.

The ICIN Annual Reconnection Awards Banquet – is to provide recognition of Police Officer, Corrections officers, Civilian support staff and Agency/Departments that have demonstrated exceptional courage or resourcefulness in service to the people of Indian Country, thereby exhibiting the highest.
