Tenth Annual Golf Classic

Six eighth-graders from the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community are members of the Stapley Junior High wrestling team this season: Miliano Acosta, Jacob Charlie, Isaac Chiago, Michael Dallas, Brody Webster and Omani Zyberi. On Wednesday, September 25, the wrestlers had the opportunity to perform in a meet against the Rhodes Junior High wrestling team. The first match of the meet was for the competitive teams, and the second match was for developmental wresters.

 

Glow Walk Suicide Prevention

On the evening of Tuesday, December 3, the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community’s Prevention and Intervention Program, part of the Division of Health and Human Services, held its first Glow Walk at the SRPMIC Two Waters Complex to honor those who have taken their lives through suicide, help those who have been affected by suicide to heal, and to help prevent suicide within the Community.

 

Hot Chocolate Run

More than 12,000 people took part in the Hot Chocolate 15/5K at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick on Sunday, December 8. This was the second year that the run was held in Salt River. Nicknamed “America’s Sweetest Race,” the run is sponsored by RAM Racing and has become one of the more popular events with Valley runners, who can choose either the 15K (9.3-mile) or the 5K (3.1-mile) route. Proceeds benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities.

 

Men and Womens Basketball Tournament

The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community hosts various athletic tournaments throughout the year, and one of them is the Pi-Copa Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournament. This year’s tournament was held at the Salt River Community Building November 27-30.
