Kaily Toney Receives American Indian Excellence in Leadership Award

On Tuesday, November 19, 16-year-old Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community member Kaily Toney was named one of two High School Students of the Year at the American Indian Excellence in Leadership Awards, presented by the Phoenix Indian Center. Toney was recognized at the 31st annual dinner celebration, which honored Business of the Year, Man and Woman of the Year and Students of the Year and was held at the DoubleTree by Hilton Phoenix/Tempe.

Salt River Elementary School Hosts STEM Family Night

On Monday, November 25, Salt River Elementary School (SRES) hosted its first-ever Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Family Night. Salt River Elementary is one of seven schools in Arizona to be selected as a pilot site for the Helios STEM School Pilot Program. At STEM Family Night, students and their families experienced an evening of science projects and hands-on experiments.

 

Cancer Survivor Enjoys Vacation of a Lifetime Through Make-a-Wish Foundation

When picturing a five-year-old child, one might see a young child learning the ABCs, learning how to count to 20, running and playing with other children, and getting their first taste of elementary school as they enter kindergarten. This was the life of five-year-old Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community member Teniya Salazar, until one night in September of 2011.

 

Human Resources Vocational Rehabilitation Division

The Salt River Vocational Rehabilitation Program, part of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community Human Resources Department, set up a booth with information for interested individuals on October 16 at the Round House Café. The program provides vocational rehabilitation services for Community members and residents with disabilities to help them enter and contribute to the workforce
