April 14th to April 20th 2013 is “National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week (NTW).” The National Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (NAPCO) organization convinced Congress of the need for a formal proclamation. Rep. Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) introduced what became H.J. Res. 284 to create “National Public Safety Telecommunicator Week” that was officially recognized by Congressional Proclamation in 1994.
Our Salt River Police Department (SRPD) Public Safety Dispatchers as you may know are on-duty 24-hours a-day 7-days a week 365 days a year and are the Community’s “life lines” for all emergencies. In fact, our Public Safety Communications Division (PSCD) Professionals receive about 150,000 telephone calls each year, dispatching Police and Fire personnel to all calls for service.
You don’t need NTW to acknowledge our Public Safety Dispatchers for excellence! You can write them a commendation, mention their “good work” to their supervisor or call or stop by and thank them for being our Community's communications lifeline 24-hours-a-day!
