WPRA Rodeo Champion Encourages Salt River Aal-Tash Fun Day Rodeo Participants

The Salt River Aal-Tash Fun Day Rodeo was held on March 30 at Ropers Arena, located off Loop 101 and McDowell Road. Many Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community members and other Native Americans participated in this year’s rodeo, competing in events such as barrel racing, pole bending, flag racing, team roping, steer racing and more.

Community’s Wild Horses; In Good Hands and Care

The wild horses living on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community are believed to be the descendants of the horses brought over from Spain in the 1600s to accompany Hernán Cortés and the other Conquistadors, and Jesuit missionaries like Father Eusebio Francisco Kino, who established Catholic missions in southern Arizona.

 

NIGA Convention Provides Networking and Education for Indian Gaming Professionals

The National Indian Gaming Association (NIGA) held its 22nd Annual Indian Gaming Tradeshow and Convention at Phoenix Convention Center in downtown Phoenix, March 24-27. The convention brought in more than 5,000 tribal gaming industry professionals and tribal council members, who were educated about innovative products and programs for the gaming industry.
