Devanie Duwyenie Crowned Miss Indian Arizona

Former Miss and Jr. Miss Salt River title holder Devanie Selma Duwyenie was crowned the 51st Annual Miss Indian Arizona on October 13. Eighteen-year-old Duwyenie is the daughter of Stephanie Manning and Donovan Duwyenie.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

On Monday, October 1, the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community Health Services Division kicked off Domestic Violence Awareness Month with Purple Ribbon Mondays at the Round House Café. Customers who wear their purple ribbon in support of domestic violence prevention receive 10 percent off their purchase on Mondays. The promotion will continue throughout the month.

 

Community Families Come Out for Safety Day

On October 11, the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community police and fire departments sponsored Safety Day at the Salt River Pop Warner football field. Community members and families came out to take part in the free event, which featured both fun and learning with safety demonstrations, food, clowns, health and wellness information booths, child safety-seat inspections and live music.

 

Hayden Flour Mill Opens up as a Venue Spot in Tempe

A dedication ceremony for the newly renovated Hayden Flour Mill in Tempe, a historical landmark, took place October 5 from 5 to 10 p.m. outside the facility, at the base of Tempe’s Mill Avenue District on Rio Salado Parkway and Mill Avenue.
The newly opened event venue is called The Green at Hayden Flour Mill, and it is open to the public for special events like concerts, weddings, parties and others.
