“When Angry Birds Battle” was the theme for the schoolwide Homecoming celebration at Salt River High School on September 21. Throughout the day and evening, a variety of events took place around the school.

The Day Work Program Helps Both Workers and the Community

The Day Work Program (DWP), which has been in operation since December 2011, has been very successful so far. Enrolled Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community members can come in and work for a day and receive payment on that same day for their work.

 

SRES Robotics Club Grows into Two Teams

Salt River Elementary School instructor Angelo Fernando is back coaching the Titans, the school Robotics Team, and is preparing for a new year with many new faces. Two students are returning from last year, but the rest are all new members. “We [have had three] meetings so far, getting everyone on board,” said Fernando.

In April, eight women of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, along with 20 other Native American women representing the 21 tribes of Arizona, were inducted into the Women’s Plaza of Honor at the University of Arizona campus in Tucson.
