Salt River Wrestler Committed to Program

Salt River High School sophomore and varsity wrestler Blaine Hillis may just be an ordinary athlete, battling an ordinary injury, chasing an ordinary goal. But Hillis is taking on extraordinary life lessons each and every day he spends in the classroom, on the track and in the wrestling room.

 

Junior High Wrestlers Perform Well at Sunkids Classic

The trip to Tempe High School for the 2012 Sunkids Classic on Saturday, January 7 was a tournament the Salt River junior high wrestling team was looking forward to. They put in the work on the track, in the weight room and on the wrestling mat. The hard work paid off, as both eighth-graders Lavelle Benally (167-pound division) and Jeffrey Thomas (heavyweight) won their way to the gold-medal matches in their divisions.

 

Junior Varsity Boys Basketball Team Is Improving Tremendously

The Salt River High School junior varsity boys basketball head coach, Jeff Johnson, said his team primarily has been focusing on improving defense to limit scoring opportunities for the opposition. The team is extremely aggressive and their effort on the court is obvious.


 

Community Member Plays on Mountain View Toros Basketball Team

Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community member Sean Wood is a freshman at Mountain View High in Mesa and plays on the freshman basketball team for the school. He currently holds a 4.0 GPA and takes several honors and advanced classes at Mountain View..
