HAPPY NEW YEAR 2012

The 2011 New Year’s Eve Family Celebration took place at the Salt River Community Building parking lot on December 31 from 4 p.m. until midnight. Midway rides and game booths were set up, and the Teen Dance for ages 13-17 featured DJ Tony and was held inside the Community Building. At 8 p.m. Two Rivers Band played Chicken Scratch inside the Pi-Copa Gym. The wristband presales totaled 160 for the 2011 celebration.

Proposed Land Leasing Regulations Leave Landowners at a Standstill

It’s not too late to contact BIA or sign a petition against potential changes - deadline January 30

This year, the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) is proposing new regulations requiring potential homeowners to obtain signatures of 100 percent of the landowners for each parcel of land in order to get approval for a homesite.

 

Tribal Librarian Leigh Thomas Honored with Rosenzweig Distinguished Service Award

Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community member and Tribal Librarian Leigh Thomas has received the Rosenzweig Distinguished Service Award from the Arizona Library Association (AzLA). The award was presented at the annual Arizona Library Association Conference, which was held at the Westin La Paloma resort in Tucson at the end of November.

 

The Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Central Arizona come to SRPMIC

This year, the Boys & Girls Club Lehi Branch has started a new partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona (BBBSAZ). The Native American Mentoring initiative of BBBSAZ is working to expand its mentoring efforts to enroll more Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community youth and match them with Native adult mentors, and so far the organizations have made 15 matches.
