Jacoby Ellsbury and Nike Host Baseball Camp for Youth

On the morning of January 21, a nice overcast day, youth ages 11-14 gathered at the Salt River Recreation Building to participate in the very first Nike N7 Baseball Camp. They received their Native American–inspired Nike N7 T-shirts, then boarded a charter bus that took them over to Salt River Fields at Talking Stick.

Delbert Ray, Sr. Elected to District I Council Seat

Delbert Ray, Sr. was elected to fill the open District I seat on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community Tribal Council on January 26, during a 2012 Special Election. Ray will complete the remainder of the term of office, which expires in December 2014. He will be sworn into office during the February 1 regular Council meeting.

 

17th Annual Indian Nations and Tribes Legislative Day

Many ambassadors from different tribes from the state of Arizona gathered at the State Capital on January 17 for the 70th annual Indian Nations and Tribes Legislative Day. The purpose of the day is to celebrate the rich culture and history of Arizona’s Tribes and Nations but also to address legislative issues of mutual interest and develop a plan to identify proactive solutions to overcome challenges related to economic growth.

 

Roberta Carlos Reaches 35 Years Serving Her Community

In 1975, Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community member Roberta “Bobbie” Carlos started working for the Community as a motor pool trainee in the Fleet Department under a grant program called CETA.
