Ford Ironman Arizona Triathlon

On November 18, almost 3,000 athletes gathered at Tempe Town Lake to undergo a test of strength and endurance at the ninth annual Ford Ironman Arizona triathlon. The athletes faced a challenging course consisting of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride and a 26.2-mile run.

Vietnam Vets Honored at Community Veterans Day Celebration

Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community members and veterans came together at the Lehi Community Building to recognize Veterans Day on November 12. This year much of the program focused on the Vietnam War, as 2012 marks the 50th anniversary of the United States’ entry into that war.

On Sunday, October 21, Kateri Tekakwitha, a Native American woman was canonized by the Roman Catholic Church along with seven other individuals, including one other American.

 

Huhugam Ki Museum Celebrates 25th Anniversary

The Huhugam Ki Museum was dedicated on November 11, 1987, and 25 years later it is still in mint condition as it serves its purpose of educating the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community and visitors interested in the Community’s history. On November 10, to commemorate the 25th anniversary, the museum celebrated with various dances and demonstrations that ran all day and into the evening. Featured events included a Community feast, a chicken scratch dance contest and a salute to Community veterans.
