Community Honors Its Veterans

gallery-01Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community members and veterans came together at the Lehi Community Building to recognize Veterans Day on November 12. This year much of the program focused on the Vietnam War, as 2012 marks the 50th anniversary of the United States’ entry into that war. On the morning of November 9 in the courtyard of the Two Waters complex, the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community tribal government recognized and honored its employee veterans and employees with immediate family members on active duty. The employees took some time out from their jobs to attend the program and enjoy a continental breakfast.

Community Thanksgiving Dinner

gallery-02The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community Thanksgiving dinner was held on November 17 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Salt River Community Building parking lot. Along with the meal, guests enjoyed a variety of festivities, including live entertainment and children’s activities.

Ford Ironman Arizona Triathlon

gallery-01On November 18, almost 3,000 athletes gathered at Tempe Town Lake to undergo a test of strength and endurance at the ninth annual Ford Ironman Arizona triathlon. The athletes faced a challenging course consisting of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride and a 26.2-mile run.

Youth Triathlon

gallery-01More than 20 youngsters participated in the 2012 Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community Youth Triathlon, held on November 10 at the Salt River Community Building.
