Salt River High School Athletics Set for Season

The Salt River High School varsity football team began practicing on August 2 for the start of their season, which began with a scrimmage on August 19 and their first regular-season game August 26. The varsity volleyball team began practicing the week after, with the first game set to take place September 2 at 6 p.m. at Chandler Prep.

 

Salt River Back 2da School Yard championship

The Salt River “Back 2da School Yard” Basketball Tournament took place August 18-20 at the Salt River Pi-Copa Gym. The co-ed tournament had two age brackets, 8-12 and 13-15, and was hosted by the Salt River Recreation Department.

 

Zumba Zaps Salt River

Robin Mowers is a financial manager by trade but a Zumba instructor by heart.
Zumba zapped Mowers at her fitness club and she fell in love with its music, energy and dancing. She began teaching Zumba three years ago, and her classes in the Salt River Fitness Center began with approximately five to seven people. Today, her class has about 25 students, and other hopefuls line the doors outside waiting for a place in the room.

 

Right Way, Wrong Way: Proper Workout Technique Exercise: Triceps Extension

The triceps are a muscle group in the back of the arm responsible for straightening (extending) the elbow. It works in conjunction with the biceps muscle on the front of the arm, which bends (flexes) the elbow joint. One of the most popular exercises for the triceps is elbow extension, often called triceps extension or “cable triceps push-downs” (picture). Consequently, this is an exercise I often see performed with poor form.
