Family and Fitness Day Run in Salt River

Runners and walkers came out to the Family and Fitness Day Run on Saturday, September 24 at Salt River High School. There were 1-mile and 2-mile events, and a 10K as the grand finale, which is 6 miles.

 

Lehi Lifeguard Program Promotes Water Safety to Community Youth

Ten Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community youth recently participated in the Lehi Lifeguard Program. Participants met two times per week for four weeks, completing seven classes and 14 hours of instruction. Dione Dallas, Analisa Estrada, Mariah Kayonie, Evenna Lopez, Christian Manymules, Kayne Quintana, Issac Schurz, Maya Washington, Trenton Westbrook and Elvin Whitman were led by lifeguards Cassie Coonts, Leah McKinzie and Shanna Westbrook. Throughout the program, which ended on September 28, participants focused on several key areas: health and physical fitness, first aid, rescue techniques, and educational and recreational activities.

 

Little Big Man Baseball Tournament Crowns Champions

The Little Big Man Baseball Tournament, hosted by the Salt River Recreation Department, took place September 24 at the Salt River Ballfields. Four teams competed: the Mesa Indians, Guadalupe Padres, Dodgers and Odd Ballerz. Each team participated in three games, and the winners were determined by the best record. Ties were decided by the least runs allowed. Every team received an award.

 

Majestics Win the 2011 Chair Volleyball Championship

This is the fourth year in a row that the Salt River Majestics chair volleyball team placed in a tournament. On September 10, the Majestics took the championship of the tournament held in District 7 of Laveen during the 146th Mustering In Days Celebration.
