“The Spirit of the Crown Celebrating Indian Woman of Courage & Vision” was the theme for this year’s Miss Indian Arizona program, which was held on Saturday, October 8 at the Chandler Center for the Arts. This year the organization behind the pageant, the Miss Indian Arizona Association (MIAA), celebrated its 50th anniversary.

Salt River’s Pictures of the Past

More than 30 Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community members and some Community employees gathered on Tuesday, September 27 at the Salt River Community Building to view a presentation by the Huhugam Ki Museum called “Salt River’s Pictures of the Past.”

 

Optimism Keeps MC Optimal On His Talent As Hip Hop MC

At the young age of 6, Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community member Guy Goodwin was living and breathing hip-hop. Goodwin, along with (as he remembers) his sister Mesha Goodwin; Bennett Manuel, Jr.; D.A. Enos; Tutor Biakeddy; Justin Azule; and some other people from Salt River were part of Legion of Doom, a break-dancing group that performed in shows throughout Arizona and surrounding states.

 

Community Departments, Businesses and Organizations Make SHRRP a Success

If you have driven around the Community lately, you may have noticed several new homes going up and may have wondered to whom they belong. Thanks to the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community’s Senior Home Repair and Replacement Program (SHRRP), 11 new homes have been built this year.
