Community Youth Learn from Riverview Golf Pro

For eight weeks each spring and fall, Riverview Golf Course in Mesa plays host to the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community youth golf clinic. Recreation Coordinator II Stan Overturf has been assisting at the clinic, which is led by Riverview Head Golf Pro Craig Porter. The junior golf program has been offered to Community children for the past five or six years.

 

365 Sports Invites Community Member to Basketball Tournament in the Bahamas

Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community member Kishan Cooper will be one of several girls from her school to participate this summer in the international training and competitions presented by 365 Sports. Cooper and others will travel with the program to North Carolina, where two-day training will take place, and then off to the Bahamas to compete in two basketball tournaments.

 

Salt River Eagles Track Team Competes in Arizona Lutheran Invitational

The Salt River High School varsity track team entered six athletes into the Arizona Lutheran Invitational. Head coach Steve Adams stood near the fence as he waited for the start of the 100-meter dash where Lloyd Lewis, Daniel Lopez and Eugene Lewis were set to compete.

 

Spring Kickball League

Spring is a perfect time to head outdoors and enjoy the cool weather. It’s also a good time to get the kids together and form kickball teams, and that is exactly what 11 coaches did recently on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community. The youth kickball league started at the end of March and wrapped up at the end of April. The teams were out playing on the Recreation field almost every night, with at least two games back-to-back.
