Lady Eagles Ends Season In First Round of State

The Lady Eagles entered the 2011 AIA 1A state girls’ basketball tournament as the No. 2 seed from their region and were matched up with Seligman in the first round on February 11 at Bradshaw Mountain in Prescott. Salt River was entering the tournament as the defending state champions, while Seligman was knocked out by the Lady Eagles in last year’s semi-finals.

 

Team Roper takes Buckle in Senior Division of
Tohono O’Odham Junior Rodeo

Trevor Waters, a member of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, recently competed in the All-Indian Junior Rodeo on February 4, which was part of the 73rd Annual Tohono O’odham Nation Rodeo and Fair in Sells. Waters competed in the Senior Division, for 14- to 17-year-olds. “I participate in that rodeo all the time,” said Waters, 16.

 

Salt River Teen Adds Rodeo Awards to Her Many Accomplishments

Since she was six years old, Ciera Noel McAnlis has been competing in rodeo events all over Arizona and New Mexico, winning multiple awards for her skills. On February 4, the 13-year-old, who attends Stapley Junior High, competed in the All-Indian Junior Rodeo, part of the 73rd Annual Tohono O’odham Nation Rodeo and Fair in Sells. She entered the barrel racing, pole bending, team roping and ribbon roping events. McAnlis did very well, winning first place in pole bending, and second place in barrel racing, team roping and ribbon roping. She competed in the Junior Division, for ages 10-13.

 

2011 Senior Games

Approximately 200 seniors from Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community and other Native Communities across Arizona gathered for the Salt River Senior Games on February 17 at the Salt River Community building. With adaptive games, individual games and team games the seniors all chatted loudly and were excited to get the games started.
