On Saturday, June 11, the 23rd Annual Miss Salt River Pageant took place at the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community Building. Two contestants, Devanie Duwyenie, 17, and Martha Ludlow-Martinez, 20, competed for the Miss Salt River crown.
On the evening of June 6, Salt River students were recognized and rewarded for academic performance and perfect attendance. The Salt River Education Department’s School and Community Relations Division held an honors banquet for students in grades K-12 who had perfect attendance, students in grades K-6 with an A or B average, honor roll or principal’s list students, and high school students who had a GPA of 3.3 or higher throughout the entier school year.
As the summer heat picks up in here in the Valley, kids will want to head to pools and other sources of water to cool themselves down. So now is a great time for a reminder about children and water safety. From January to early June, there had already been 21 child drownings in the Valley—and it’s just the beginning of summer.
