Native Ballers Roll Into Town for the NABI Tournament

The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community and other Native American youth across the country and Canada participated in the Ninth Annual Native American Basketball Invitational (NABI), July 5-9. Games were played in the Community at Scottsdale Community College, the Salt River High School and Phoenix.

Student Filmmakers Premiere “Waiting on the World to Change”

Five students at Salt River High School recently wrote, directed and produced short films during a three-week summer camp with the Film School at Scottsdale Community College. During the camp, they attended classes and learned techniques of film production, earning three credits toward their college education.

 

Cecmat Camp Teaches Youth to Make Tortillas

In June, the Huhugam Ki Museum hosted a week-long Cecmat/Tortilla Camp for girls and boys ages 10 to 12 to teach them how to make homemade tortillas (cecmat).

 

A Family Grows Together in the Garden

On the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, a family of three enjoys each other’s company each Saturday morning as they wake up with the sun to tend to their garden. Ernesto, Pila and their son Ramon Lopez began gardening about five years ago, starting with simple things like squash, watermelon and garlic.
