This year the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community hosted its Fourth of July Celebration for the first time at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick. More than 700 Community members and families gathered on the soccer field to celebrate the holiday.

Change for the Better Leads Community Member to the White House

After five years of hard work and a positive attitude, Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community member Eric Schurz has changed his life—for his wife, his children, his family, and, most important, for himself. That change has taken Schurz to places he would have never imagined: In June, he was invited to Washington, D.C. by President Barack Obama and his staff to take part in the Champions of Change, a weekly initiative by the White House to highlight American people from all across the United States who are making an impact in their communities and doing extraordinary things for a better future.

 

Young River People’s Council Elects New Leaders

On June 8, new officers of the Young River People’s Council (YRPC) were inaugurated into office by Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community Chief Judge Ryan Andrews. The youth nominated Jessica Ruiz as their new president, Antonio Briones Jr. as vice-president, and Elaina Gutierrez as secretary.

 

Disabilities Awareness Conference Highlights Community Services

On Tuesday, June 21, the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community Special Needs Resources Program held Pathway to Empowerment: A Disability Awareness Series Conference for all Community members to learn about Community programs and outside resources to help those with disabilities or special needs.
