Community Members Run in P.F. Chang’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon

Nearly 25,000 people participated in the 2011 P.F. Chang’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon and Half Marathon on January 16. Several members and employees of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community ran in the race, which began at the State Capitol and ended at Arizona State University’s Sun Devil Stadium.

 

Lady Eagles Basketball Team Defeats No. 1 Ranked Gilbert Christian

Heading into their January 18 game, the Salt River Lady Eagles varsity girl’s basketball team knew they were going up against the No. 1 ranked girls from the Gilbert Christian Knights. But the team stepped onto the court ready to play.

 

New Year’s Basketball Tourney

The first basketball tournament of the year, the 2011 Men’s New Year’s Basketball Tournament, was recently held at the Pi-Copa Gym at the Salt River Community Building. Nine teams gathered January 6–8 to have fun playing basketball and compete for the championship title.

 

Eagle Wrestlers Finish 2-4 in Home Multi Meet

The Salt River High School wrestling team played host to a multi-meet against Hopi, Pinon, Santa Cruz, Valley Christian and Joy Christian High Schools on January 22. The Eagles competed in the second round of the multi and Jesus Salazar was the first to wrestle in the 112-pound weight class.
