Salt River Eagles Track Team Competes at Phoenix Christian Invitational

In the sport of track and field, running and jumping events receive more attention from spectators and athletes than the throwing events—the shot put and discus. Here, the competition is either won or lost in the throwing circle with no one beside the thrower, the throwing object and the tape measure. For three Salt River High School track and field athletes, throwing is their focus this season.

 

The 175 Classic Basketball Tournament

The 175 Classic Basketball Tournament took place on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community April 7–9 at the Pi-Copa Gym. This tournament usually attracts a lot of participants, and to be a little different this year they added the women’s division and split up the age groups in the men’s division. Three divisions were created in the tournament: two men’s divisions, one for players ages 30–39 and one for players 40-plus; and one women’s 30-plus age division. In total there were 23 teams.

 

­Salt River Aal-Tash Fun Day Rodeo

The Salt River Aal-Tash Fun Day Rodeo took place at the Ropers Arena on March 26. The century roping (age of two ropers must be at least 100 years) and barbeque were held in honor of the late Emmitt King, who was on the Salt River Rodeo Committee from its beginning until his passing in 2009.

 

Salt River Softball Classic Draws 14 Teams to Compete For Title

The Salt River High School Lady Eagles softball team hosted the Seventh Annual Salt River Softball Classic March 24–26. Fourteen schools took part in the tournament: Salt River, Monument Valley, Greyhills, Babo, Tempe Prep, Salome, South Pointe, Bagdad, Arizona Lutheran, Miami, Chandler Prep, San Tan Foothills, Veritas and Phoenix Christian.
