Wellness Family Fun Night and Health Fair Promotes Healthy Living

As Family Fun Night and Health Fair got underway at the Salt River Community building on March 15 the room was lively with booths from various departments as well as a Zumba fitness class taking place near the stage.

The Wellness Night at Salt River High School was held on March 22. Several departments from within the Community, as well as information from outside of the Community was shared with members who attended the event.

 

Council Member Leonard Rivers throws out first pitch

On a cloudy Monday afternoon on March 21 at Scottsdale Stadium, as the San Francisco Giants were getting ready to play against the Colorado Rockies in a spring training game, Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community Council Member Leonard Rivers was getting ready to throw out the first pitch. As the crowd filled the stands, Rivers said how excited he was.

 

The Healthy Chair

In conjunction the wellness program that the Community has been hosting, Salt River elementary school’s kindergarten class of Mrs. Dawn Burstyn-Meyers decided to get in on the wellness track and become advocates of living healthy lives at the student’s young age. The chair which was a recycled chair of the elementary school was used sanded and painted on. Each student of Burstyn-Meyers picked out a healthy fruit or vegetable that is their favorite and took turns painting it on the chair along with signing their names on the seat.
