Senior Games Test Agility

On February 25, seniors from the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community and sister communities such as Gila River and Lehi gathered at the Community Building for the annual Senior Olympics, a series of fun and competitive activities designed to encourage physical activity and test strength, endurance and agility.

 

Vance Oliver Places Second in Kansas 5A State Wrestling Championships

In a city called Winfield, located south of Wichita, Kansas, lives a Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community member by the name of Vance Oliver. Oliver is a senior at Winfield High School and a top wrestler there. Oliver participated in the Kansas Class 5A State Wrestling Championships on February 27 at the Intrust Bank Arena in Wichita, in the 140-pound division.

 

Senior Lady’s Basketball

Several members and employees of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community competed in the Arizona Senior Olympic State Games, which are held every year beginning in the third week of February. The games consist of 32 sports events for people age 50 and “better” who compete against others in their age range and against themselves to achieve their personal best in their chosen fitness activity.

 

Woodstock Takes Tee-Ball Championship

The Salt River Woodstock tee-ball team was privileged to win the championship title in the Tee-Ball Tournament, which is part of the 48th Annual Mul-Chu-Tha Fair and Rodeo. The Tee-Ball Tournament was held at the Gila River District No. 4 ball fields in Santan, March 4–6.
