On May 22, the 2010 Spring Classic Co-ed Slow-Pitch Softball Tournament held its championship game for the last two teams standing.
Team UNB from the Pinnacle Peak area and Say Something, a local team, battled it out to claim this year’s championship. Twelve teams competed in the tournament, but newcomers UNB took first place, beating Say Something 12-11.
Team UNB started out with a low score, but by the fifth inning they caught up to Say Something. As the game went on, the drama started to unfold; players on both teams grew more testy with each other. But showing determination and a “brush it off” attitude, UNB came back strong and won the game.
“We’re kind of overconfident; we never give up and we really try hard. No matter if we’re down eight runs, we still go for it. That’s how we’ve always played; with our positive attitude we try to keep going and try our hardest,” said UNB coach Lisa Gayle.
“We would love to play out here again. This was one of the best-organized tournaments we’ve ever played in. It was well put together and we really liked it,” Gayle said after the game.
