The Salt River Recreation Department sponsored a T-Ball Challenge on May 14 and 15. This Challenge gave children 5 to 7 years old the experience playing a game similar to baseball but with one difference: instead of a pitcher throwing the ball, the ball is put on a tee stand, making it easier for the little ones to hit.

The Challenge had nine teams with participants from Salt River, Blackwater, Ak-Chin and Mesa. The kids were able to play at least three different teams. The games were played without keeping track of wins and losses. This was a way to show the kids how to have fun with other kids their age, leaving out the competition. The Challenge gave the kids a chance to show off their new learned skills, in offense and defense, while learning about good sportsmanship and the basics of baseball.

All the teams were winners, and each player was awarded with a cool hat.
